How much does it cost to upload a shirt on Roblox? (2026)

Guide · Checked

Making a design here is free. Putting it on Roblox is not. Here is the full list of fees, with dates, so nothing surprises you.

The upload fee: 80 Robux per item

Since 14 July 2026, Roblox charges 80 Robux for every item you upload. That covers shirts, pants and T-shirts, and it applies whether or not you ever sell the item.

Before that date the numbers were different, and they moved a few times. A first announcement on 7 July 2026 said 200 Robux. After a lot of feedback, Roblox revised it on 13 July to 80 Robux for 2D items. The current rules are the 13 July version.

Roblox's own documentation adds one more detail: in general, upload fees are not refunded if the item is rejected in moderation. So check your design before you pay, and run the pre-upload checker in the app first.

The publishing advance: 10 Robux

If you later want to put a shirt, pants or T-shirt on sale, Roblox asks for a 10 Robux publishing advance. Roblox describes it as refundable: it is paid back out of Roblox's own share of your later sales. If the item never sells, you do not get it back.

You only pay this if you sell. Uploading to wear your own design does not trigger it.

Other fees that do not apply to clothing

Some items cost more. Items that use an emissive (glowing) texture cost 500 Robux to upload. 3D items have much higher publishing advances, from 600 Robux up. Classic shirts, pants and T-shirts made in this app are none of these, so the figures above are the ones that matter.

What it adds up to

Now compare that with what a sale pays. On the Marketplace the base creator share is 30%. A 10 Robux item pays about 3 Robux per sale at that share. Selling enough items to cover the upload fee takes many sales, and nobody can promise that will happen. Treat uploading as a way to wear your design or share it with friends, not as a way to earn Robux.

Moderation takes time

Roblox reviews each item before it can be sold. Its documentation says this can take up to 24 hours. You can appeal a rejection.

Rules can change

These figures were checked on 16 October 2026 against Roblox's creator documentation and a DevForum announcement from the Roblox team. Roblox decides the rules and can change them at any time. The app shows the current figures on the checker screen, and you can read Roblox's announcement here: Unifying 2D and 3D avatar item publishing.
