Why clothing apps can't upload to Roblox for you

Guide · Checked

You might wonder why you have to leave the app and use a browser to upload. It is a fair question. Here is the honest answer.

Roblox does not offer a way to do it

Roblox has a programming interface for uploading assets, called Open Cloud. Its documentation lists what it can create: animations, audio, images (decals), meshes, models and video. Shirts, pants and T-shirts are not on that list. So an app cannot send a finished classic clothing item to Roblox the way it can send a picture or a sound.

Roblox's own guide for classic clothing says the same thing in plainer words: you upload the image to the Marketplace through a web browser. We checked this on 16 October 2026.

Could an app upload the image another way?

An app could upload your picture as a decal. But that is not a shirt. You would still have to open Roblox's site, create the shirt from the image, pay the 80 Robux fee and pass moderation. So it would save you nothing and could confuse you.

What about "log in with Roblox"?

Roblox does let third party apps ask for permission through a sign-in system called OAuth. There are two reasons we do not use it:

What we will never do

What we do instead

The app makes the part we can do well: a correctly sized PNG that follows Roblox's template, a checker that warns about empty areas before you pay anything, and a step by step guide for Roblox's creator site that opens in your phone's browser sheet. You sign in on Roblox's own page, and we never see it.

If this changes

If Roblox adds clothing to its upload interface someday, we will look at it again, with the same care about age and passwords.
